How it Began…

My love for the outdoors has been an integral part of my life since childhood.  As a young boy, my dad introduced me to outdoor activities, including fishing, trapping, and hunting.  Originally just a weekend and after school pastime, my passion for being in the woods eventually turned into a deep addiction where I was educated by my dad on the ins and outs of the natural world and the whole farm to table concept, long before it was a trend.

Working at a deer processing shop and pork farm as a teen, I was able to learn proper skinning techniques in addition to how to slaughter pigs first hand.  These unique experiences led me to employment with a local butcher, Nello Loiacono, who ended up becoming one of my greatest mentors, and provided me with the understanding of processing from start to finish.  Add to it working at a local grocery store chain for a few years in the meat department, and I was able to perfect my craft.

In 2015, I decided to venture on my own and utilize the skills I acquired to put my expertise to the test by opening my own butcher shop.  My dad’s long-time inspiration and constant encouragement equipped me with the tools and skills to create a market that strives to sell fresh, specialty and high-quality products along with traditional favorites to customers who prefer the local feel of a butcher shop instead of a corporate grocery store chain.  Along with my daughters, who help me run the business, my goal is very simple–to provide the best tasting meat from our shop to your plate. ~Rob Hughart, Owner
